Moving to Nampa, Idaho, 2024 - Day 8 - Hollister, CA

Image
Very nice drive today from LA to Hollister, we had light traffic and the Santa Ana winds and fires in the LA area did not impact us.  We dropped the 5 th Wheel at daughter Kelly's until sometime in the spring - we have a bit of work to do in order to park it on the backyard pad in Nampa, plus its cold there and we would have to winterize it.  We plan to come back when its warmer and move it north.  Completed 2816 miles with the RV on this trip. We'll be here for a few days before we deadhead to Nampa in order to recieve the Packrat Containers and the Highlander - on or about January 7. Next post here will be when we arrive in Nampa - Happy New Year to all

Moving to Nampa, Idaho, 2024 - Day 7 - Northridge, CA

A long drive today out of Arizona and into California.  We hit very high winds in Palm Desert that made driving interesting to say the very least!  Traffic in the LA area was pretty heavy and it seemed like we drove about half the day inside the city, what a huge sprawling mass of humanity. We are in a beautiful RV park, has been here a long time and supposedly at one time was in the country, now is in the middle of the city.  Spots are a bit tight for modern big rigs, but we got lucky and were able to pull-through the empty spot behind us - SCORE, otherwise it would have been a challenging exercise in backing up. On to Hollister in the morning, last day of this journey with the 5th wheel.

Moving to Nampa, Idaho, 2024 - Day 6 - Apache Junction, AZ

Nice drive today, out of New Mexico and into Arizona, while still very much a desert region, Arizona is much more attractive than Texas and New Mexico, which seem to be drab and dirty. We are in a great KOA tonight, very near Superstion Mountain - very spectacular view just across the road. Finally warm enough this afternoon that we could take the boys and have lunch on the patio at a local place - food was good and it was good to be outside even though it is overcast.

Moving to Nampa, Idaho, 2024 - Day 5 - Deming, NM

FINALLY out of Texas - wow what a lot of totally barren worthless (except for oil) land!  New Mexico isn't that much better, but much smaller😟 The day started out very foggy for the first couple of hours, very low visibility, I found a good slow trucker and followed him until the sun got bright enough to burn off the fog. Nice drive in general as very little of the road was under construction.  We landed in NM to very high wind and lots of dust.  Our RV park isn't anything noteworthly, but not as desolate as last night in Texas. Tomorrow we get to Arizona, only 2 more nights out before we land in Hollister.

Moving to Nampa, Idaho, 2024 - Day 4 - Odessa/Midland, TX

Rainy as we left this morning, but the drive was nice (except that its still Texas, which has NO redeeming values that we can see), the roads were good and we had an uneventful drive into Odessa.  Getting really tired of Texas and still have most of tomorrow getting across it.  There are no pictures today because the spot we are in is basically non-attractive. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!!!

Moving to Nampa, Idaho, 2024 - Day 3 - Arlington, TX

Mostly a nice drive across Louisiana from Mississippi and then into Texas today.  Texas has so much of the interstate underconstruction its hard to avoid the mess.  I20 is better than I10, but we still had about 10 miles of white-knuckle driving with barriers on both side of a 1-lane road, no room for error when you have a big trailer following you - no wonder they don't allow the truckers to use that part of the road. Lots of traffic near Dallas and into Arlington, then we figured out we are near a big mall, and it is near the end of Christmas shopping. A very nice KOA tonight, our spot is beautiful, nice patio if only we had time to enjoy it.  We did a walk around the park, lots of nice decorations and ammenities.

Moving to Nampa, Idaho, 2024 - Day 2, Clinton, MS

Image
A very nice drive today through rural Alabama and across Mississippi - our Google Maps took us through a lot of back country, didn't hit a freeway until about an hour out of Jackson, MS.  Very nice countryside and farm (mostly cotton) country. Tonight in Clinton, MS, just outside of Jackson  Not a particularly beautiful RV park, but functional. Still cooler than we like, but its warming up a bit (mid 50's today).  Tomorrow on to the Arlington/Dallas area - it should be a bit warmer and we should have good roads, we traveled on I20 a few weeks ago and for the most part it was good.

Moving to Nampa, Idaho, 2024 - Day 1, DeFuniak Springs, FL

The first day of the rest of our lives as we head away from our home in Brooksville, headed to Nampa.  All was packed in PackRat Containers and shipped last night, now its just us in the RV with our boys.   Day 1 we're still in Florida, but not by much. Camping at Sunset King Lake RV park just outside DeFuniak Springs.  A beautiful RV park right on a big fishing lake, would be a great place to spend a few days if it were a bit warmer - chilly today in Florida with the highs just in the 50's.
