 June 30, 2025 Nice drive through the mountains from Montanta back to Idaho today.  There were a couple of "return trip" mountain towns that we will want to check out, either on this trip or as a future destination (Wallace and Kellogg). This was a view of the mountains from our RV spot as we left this moning. Did a little drive around the downtown area, its booming with huge high-rises being built on every possible inch of land.  There is nothing cute and charming about this town any longer, it reminds us of Lake Tahoe, building for the rich and famous, shutting out all the locals. Even at the Marina RV park where we are, its now wall-to-wall boat storage buildings blocking the view of the water for everone.

 June 29, 2025 Today we drove to Missoula, MT to check out the area.  This part of Montana is beautiful and I'm sure there are lot of things to do, but not that we can take our little boys to, so we opted for another green belt and river walk in downtown Missoula. Missoula is a very nice city, home of the University of Montana.  The Clark River flows through the middle of town, and they have made a lot of nice parks and walking areas along the river.  We had to divert around a marathon race event that was blocking part of the downtown river area, but we found a nice park and walkway just on the west side. After the walk we found a great "BringFido" place and sat out on the covered patio and enjoyed a great lunch and adult beverages. We finished the day sitting under the awning outside our RV enjoying the peace and quiet and very nice (mid 70's) weather.

 6/28/2025 A beautiful drive north out of  the Snake River Valley into Montana.  Lots of open country, mostly farming land along the rivers and high-desert leading up to the mountains, some of which still have a bit of snow.  This is our camp site, you can see some snow off in the distance to the left.

June 27, 2025  Idaho Falls has a very beautiful riverwalk greenbelt downtown along the Snake River.  The city was renamed in 1891 from Eagle Rock to try and attract more visitors and settlers. The "falls" is a power generation station built on the river right in the heart of the city where a natural rapids existed as the river cascated over the rocks in the river.  They built a dam so that they could generate power and let the water crest over the dam for the better part of half a mile, falling back into the original river bed.  So the main river stream is quite impressive as it flows full to he banks and generates power, and the long waterfall creates a very nice area to walk and enjoy the senery.  They have a nice walkway with benches and restrooms so that visitors can enjoy.  We entered through the Japanese Friendship garden, which is very nicely done. Later on we went to Rigby Lake, just a mile from our RV park, tried our hand at fishing, but no luck ag...

 June 26, 2025 A nice drive today across south-eastern Idaho, then north-east to Rigby, just a few miles north of Idaho Falls.  We'll do some exploring of this area today, and then explore Idaho Falls tomorrow. On the way we passed through Craters of the Moon National Monument - a very strange landscape that lives up to its name.  Its a large area of a lava flow that is broken into chunks and looks like somebody just dumped it there. (These are not my pictures, we didn't stop).

  June 25, 2025 Today we drove to Twin Falls to check out the Shoshone Falls on the Snake River.  Very beautiful and majestic.  Twin Falls was a cute town with a very nice downtown area - much nicer than most downtown areas we've seen.  We had heard that this area was not the best, but our observations showed a different view.  The homes are nice and the surrounding area is mostly farm ground. We came back to our campsite, then went fishing on the Snake River - no catching involved (boo! - hence the long faces).  The river is flowing pretty fast and is full of debri (grass, algae and sticks). The Shoshone falls are pretty spectacular - touted as being similar to Niagra falls in upstate New York - not even close in terms of the amount of water going over, but still very impressive. The canyon that the Snake River flows through is beautiful and majestic, solid rock (volcanic) and deep.

 June 24, 2025 Only 90 miles from home, Glenn’s Ferry is on the Snake River southeast of Mountain Home.  This was the crossing place on the Oregon Trail of the largest river west of the Mississippi. We are in a RV park that is part of the “Y Knot” winery and golf course, so naturally we had to taste wine and have lunch.  Very nice patio and view, the boys loved it.
