Maine Trip 2024 - August 15 - 20, 2024 - Eastport, ME

 8/15/2024 - Seaview RV Resort


Beautiful spot right on the water, on the Canadian border.  Our cell phones welcomed us to Canada so we must have switched to a tower across the water.

8/16/2024 - Drove down to Bar Harbor today, a long drive (2.5 hours), hoped to walk around the pier/downtown area but it was a total circus - couldn't even find a place to park.  We did drive around looking at all the sites and shops, then drove just a few miles north and found a BringFido spot where we enjoyed a lobster bake (lobster tails, corn on the cob, red potatoes with a side of mac and cheese - Yum!!






8/17/2024 - Woke up to fog this morning (and temp of 58) - very refreshing.  I scared all the seagulls into flight as I walked to the edge of the water to take this picture.


We walked around Eastport, ME today - the easternmost city in the US.  Not a very vibrant community but was nice to get a good walk in
.










8/18/2024

Very fogged in today.  Went to Calais, ME (border crossing town) and walked along the St. Croix river.  Nothing open today, so back to Eastport where we had a great lunch on the deck looking at the water and Canada.  Great seafood chowder and lobstah roll.

Fired up the gas firepit to ward off the cool and fog - we tried to light some firewood, but it was too wet.



 
8/19/2024 - our last day in Eastport, very cool and foggy again.  Spent the morning working on getting the next segment of our trip booked.  We're heading to Niagara Falls before we go south.

The boys both wanted to sit on my lap today!

Saturday, September 6, 2025  Heading to California to visit family.  First day was a nice drive to Roseville to visit Sister Darla and husband Tim.  We're staying nearby at a great Home2 Suites (by Hilton).  We went to Tim & Darla's house and sat on the patio by their pool and enjoyed the nice weather (finally).  A beautiful day!  After a couple of margaritas, we headed over to the Woodcreek Golf Club for salads - Legends has really good food. Sunday, September 7, 2025 We met up again with Tim and Darla and drove up into the Sierra Foothills to an area called Apple Hill - in the city of Camino.  The drive was beautiful as we went past Folsom Lake and wound up into the rolling foothills.  This area is covered in Apple orchards, and this time of year (after harvest) they all turn into fall-oriented family entertainment centers, with arts and crafts and apple-everything food.  We did 2 different "ranches" where we walked among the tall trees...

McCall and Cascade, ID - August 28 - September 3, 2025

Thursday August 28, 2025  Painters start today on the whole inside of the house, so since we were going to be relegated to living in the RV for the next several days anyway, we took a chance to see if we could book a spot in the mountains over Labor Day weekend.  We scored and found a place in McCall, ID (Black Bear RV) that could take us.  We had booked this park just after the 4th of July but had to cancel because the road had washed out and we couldn't get to McCall from where we were. The park is very nice, lots of trees and so far very quiet, not full yet, but I'm sure it will be by the weekend.  The temperature is very pleasant here, only in the 70's so that is going to be a great change of pace for us.  We're hoping to get some hiking and fishing in while we're here. Summer 2026 RV Trip - Oregon coast and a bit of Montana and Idaho

July 5, 2026 - Bend, Oregon On our way for a summer adventure.  We have about 2 weeks planned and reserved, after that we'll be free-birding it and aren't sure where we'll land.  Original thought was back to Eastport Maine, we'll see. We left home this morning on our way to the Oregon coast, first stop in Bend, Oregon.  Very nice drive across Oregon, not a lot of things to see, but great roads, no traffic and event-free, can't ask for more.  The route is one that the settlers took with their covered wagons, across some pretty desolate country. We were early for our check-in at the RV park, so we found a great restaurant that is dog-friendly (via FIDO app)  We enjoyed a very relaxing and delicious lunch (salads and calamari) on the patio at Anthony's in an outdoor shopping mall - worked out very well as we could park our rig in the parking lot - took up about 10-12 spots as we are over 53' nose to tail.
